About Noah Schwartz

My life and career has taken me through music, media, and design. As a young guitarist at Berklee College of Music, I experienced music’s digital disruption and witnessed first-hand how musicians with a singular focus struggled while multifaceted creators and entrepreneurs thrived. This lesson stuck with me after graduation as I worked on many sides of the industry — with artists and bands, labels, and technology companies.

I have a PhD in Curriculum and Pedagogy from the University of Toronto and am currently employed as an Assistant Professor at Ryerson University. I work to help people understand their own processes of learning, develop self-directed curriculum, and make informed personal and professional decisions.

About the Book

There are many “how-to” books that explore the inner workings of the music business and lay out important steps for success, from recording songs to growing a social media following. But these steps are only half of the equation. They’re focused on content, but what they’re often missing is context.

In Infinite Span: Lives in Music, I explore music by placing it in context: historical, philosophical, technological, personal, and cultural. Through these explorations, you will learn how music as an art and industry got to where it is today, where it may be going, and how you can find your place.

It’s a journey of musical, technological, and cultural innovation, with stories of artists and visionaries throughout history, crossing genres from classical music to jazz, hip hop, and vaporwave. It’s the synthesis of history with self reflection and important personal questions to help you discover what you really want and how you can find it.
